In one of the greenest areas of Lombardy, we will visit (in Italian):

  • In Varese:
  1. the Basilica of San Vittore, one of the most important monuments in town, erected following plans drawn up by Pellegrino Tibaldi (XVI-XVII centuries), with a NeoClassical façade by Leopold Pollack (XVIII century); inside are paintings by Morazzone, Cerano and Cairo
  2. the Baptistry of San Giovanni, recently restored, Romanesque and Gothic styles (XII-XIII centuries); inside is the baptismal font (VII-VIII centuries) and a large monolithic octagonal font (XIII-XIV centuries), as well as fresco decoration (XIV – XV centuries)
  • In the very green Valganna:
  1. the architectonic complex of the medieval Badia of San Gemolo (XI century) of Benedictine origin, with a pentagonal cloister and various traces of its prestigious past

  • In Gemonio in Valcuvia:
  1. in a typical 18th century court, the Museo Civico Floriano Bodini, named after the famous artist, with a rich collection of his sculptures in marble, gesso, bronze, and of his medallions; an exhibit is dedicated to him on the anniversary of his death; of significance is the collection of sculptures, paintings and prints of protagonists of contemporary art, donated by Floriano Bodini to his native city; the visit will be guided by the director of the museum and by Sara Bodini, the daughter of the artist
  2. set apart from the town is the very interesting Romanesque church of San Pietro (XI century), with frescoes (XV-XVI centuries)
