About 70 works displayed – coming from 12 international museums and private collections – and artefacts and documentary images of the places the artist visited will permit visitors to recognize and analyze the figurative sources of the art of Paul Gauguin. The sources range from the folk art of Brittany in France to the art of ancient Egypt, from Peruvian objects of the Inca culture passing through Cambodian and Javanese art to arrive at the art, the life and the culture of the Polynesian islands.

It’s exactly through this comparison of masterpieces by the artist and the sources of his inspiration that the exhibit is geared to demonstrating his peculiar and original approach to “Primitivism.”
