Emergency! Restoration of our antique chairs
Help us restore the museum’s baroque chairs! The total cost is only €6,000, and we already have collected €3,000!
The leather parts of our 17th century chairs are particularly deteriorated, abraded or fragile. During the restoration, the leather backs and seats will be temporarily removed so that they and the wooden structures of the chairs can be treated, appropriately. The structural solidity of the chairs will be verified, their surfaces lightly cleaned, any lacunae will be stuccoed, the stucco and any non homogeneous places will be painted, and the whole will be lacquered. The protective tulle applied to the leather pieces will be removed, and the leather will be cleaned (first with dry, then wet techniques), rips will be repaired with similar organic material, and missing parts will be substituted with vegetable-tanned leather of the same color as the originals. Before remounting with the original studs, the leather pieces will be conditioned with pigmented wax, the fabric trim will be substituted with leather of the same color, and new tulle of the same color will be applied. The total cost of the restoration is only €6,000, and we already have collected half!
