In 2016, a terrible earthquake struck the eastern coast of Italy, and many art works were damaged.
In 2017, an effort of solidarity was promoted by ICOM Italia (the Italian committee of the International Council of Museums) called Adopt a Museum.
The Bagatti Valsecchi Museum showed its solidarity by adhering to the campaign, devoting a part of the budget of its exhibit, “The Return of Cola dell’Amatrice. Works from the Civic Art Gallery of Ascoli Piceno” (curated by Vittorio Sgarbi and realized with the support of the Region of Lombardy).
Thanks to this effort, two works were able to be restored: a 16th century polychrome wooden sculpture from the Norcia San Pellegrino church destroyed in the earthquake and a 17th century canvas painting from the church of San Francesco in Arquata del Tronto.
