We often notice heraldic crests over age-old mansions or in the decorative elements of churches and monuments. Sometimes easy to understand, sometimes of the most diverse, mysterious and strange types, they are difficult to decode in a single glance. Heraldry expresses, in fact, a multitude of coded meanings tied to a world now very distant from ours.
From the Visconti to the Sforza, from the Borromeo to the Litta and the Trivulzio, the iconic tracks of these very old noble families still feature in our city’s fabric, today. They are a very fascinating line to follow through the places of Milan, which saw these important families’ nobility, wealth and power grow.
