Originally created for the loading and unloading of postal train wagons, the underground track 21 in Milan’s Central Train Station is now infamous for its activity from 1943 to 1945: the loading of deportees – Jews and non-Jews – headed straight for concentration camps and extermination.
Since 2013, Track 21 has become Milan’s Memorial to the Shoah, that is, a museological space intended to realize not just a place of memory, but also a place for dialogue and encounters between people of different religions, ethnic backgrounds and different cultures, so that history will never repeat itself.
