From 1946 until 2006, Vico Magistretti worked in the via Conservatorio studio inherited from his father, the architect Pier Giulio Magistretti.
After a long period of reorganization to highlight and make available its archives, the studio became the seat of the Vico Magistretti Studio Museum Foundation in 2010. The resulting restructured space is a hybrid: half study and half museum, where original elements of the study dialogue with museum displays.
Magistretti, himself, “greets” visitors as they enter, in a video montage of some interviews he gave in the last years of his professional activity. In these, he also recounts a kind of family and professional autobiography, speaks of the Milan in which he was born and lived, speaks of friends, of colleagues, of his design ideas, and of his long and fruitful relationship with companies with which he worked during decades of extraordinarily intense project activity.
The Vico Magistretti Study Museum has displays of design and architecture and proposes guided tours, conversations and encounters on these same themes, as well as workshops and didactic activities for elementary and junior high students.
