ART AND CINEMA: THE TENTH MUSE AND ARTISTIC LANGUAGE

Cinematography, made possible thanks to the film and projection machines of the brothers Auguste e Louis Lumière, is the most recent of the figurative arts, the famous Tenth Muse, which has always and consciously known know to draw inspiration from the other arts.
In this excursus of ours, we will look at artists, such as the Bragaglia brothers or Salvador Dalì, who decided to try cinema, fascinated as they were by this technical medium, as well as directors, such as Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, or Michelangelo Antonioni, that cited pictorial works, fully aware of their role of “dissemination to and acculturation of the masses, which the sociologist Walter Benjamin had identified many years ago.
