Artists, friends and enemies: a possible story in the museum’s rooms
Professor Francesca Cappelletti’s talk will explore the complex and fascinating relationship between patrons and artists, with a particular focus on the artistic and political dynamics that connected Cardinal Scipione Borghese to two key figures of Baroque art: Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio and Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
Through an analysis of the works and the cardinal’s collecting strategies, it will emerge how Scipione’s patronage helped stimulate the creation of masterpieces that transformed the artistic landscape of the time.
