Guided Tour of Palazzo Terzi

The “Pearl of Baroque” in Upper Bergamo

Guided Tour of Palazzo Terzi

On January 27, at 11:00 a.m., we will be guided on a tour of the majestic and imposing halls of the main floor of Palazzo Terzi, the most important Baroque noble palace in Bergamo's Upper Town.

Still owned by the Terzi marquises, whose younger generations will accompany us on a journey through the history of the family residence spanning over four centuries, the palace not only preserves its original 17th-century structure, but also retains original furnishings and objects that belonged to illustrious members of the family who actively participated in the social, civic, and military life of the Upper Town over the centuries.

The palace was built on the occasion of two weddings, the first in 1631 between Marquis Luigi Terzi and the young Paola Roncalli, with the construction of the façade and the south wing; a century later, the marriage between Marquis Gerolamo Terzi and Giulia Alessandri, which saw the expansion of the terrace below, which in 1913 was also praised by Hermann Hesse during his visit to the capital of the Orobie Alps, who described it as “one of the most beautiful corners of Italy, one of the many little surprises and joys that make travelling worthwhile”.
