Rethinking the Renaissance
The Bagatti Valsecchi method in late 19th-century Milan
Rethinking the Renaissance
The Bagatti Valsecchi Museum presents Rethinking the Renaissance. The Bagatti Valsecchi method in late 19th-century Milan, a new volume published by Moebius Books that marks an important study and research project dedicated to the history of the Bagatti Valsecchi residence and family.
Made possible thanks to the contribution of the Lombardy Region, the project is part of a broader effort to promote and enhance the museum's historical and artistic heritage. Through essays written by scholars and representatives of prestigious academic and museum institutions, the volume offers new interpretative perspectives on the Bagatti Valsecchi story, contributing to the advancement of historical and artistic studies on a city and regional scale.
Angelo Landi, professor of architectural restoration at the Politecnico di Milano, investigates the architectural structure of the ceilings and the reuse of elements from other historic residences. Ilaria de Palma, Curator in charge of Milan's House Museums Unit, analyses the role of the artisans involved in the project, with particular attention to the Mora brothers. Paola Venturelli explores the variety of applied art objects that embellish the collection, while Mario Marubbi, curator of the Ala Ponzone Museum in Cremona, delves into the paintings from the Cremona area and their link with local tradition. Aurora Ghezzi, Collection Manager of the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, examines the collection choices that have defined the identity of the collection. The volume concludes with a contribution by Director Antonio D'Amico, who presents and comments on an unpublished text by Pier Fausto Bagatti Valsecchi from 1953, offering a reflection on his vision for the house-museum.
