Pino Deodato
at the Museum
On the occasion of Milan Art Week, Museo Bagatti Valsecchi opens its doors to contemporary art, welcoming twelve extraordinary terracottas by master Pino Deodato. From March 28 to April 4, 2025, his works will inhabit the Museum's rooms in an intense dialogue with Renaissance furnishings, objects and masterpieces, such as Giovanni Bellini's magnificent Santa Giustina.
In the precious halls of this temple of collecting, Deodato's sculptures-both recent and historic-will expertly fit between display cases, bookcases, bedrooms, and antique paintings, offering an immersive and surprising experience.
The visitor's journey will begin in the Fresco Room, where the hands of Boselli's Madonna of Mercy will “caress” the heads of the busts of the large terracottas “Pensierini” and “Maternità.” From here, the journey will continue among the rooms of the museum: in the library, among the ancient books, the work “Everything” will stand out; in Fausto's room, a precious sculptural embroidery by Deodato will dialogue with the historical furnishings. A terracotta depicting a man intent on shaving will find its place in an almost hidden cabinet in the majesticbathroom, while a delicate, fairy-tale glazed ceramic tray dedicated to “Cinderella” will appear in the Labyrinth passage. A linen sheet painted by the artist, a true hymn to love, will be laid on the Sicilian bed from the precious wrought-iron canopy in the red room. In the green room, on the other hand, one of his glazed Madonna's will be placed on a hexagonal table with an antique patina, completing a poetic and richly evocative setting.
A magical journey, in which each room is transformed into a treasure chest of wonder. Here, amidst art, inspiration and culture, visitors can be guided by a unique visual narrative in which the past and present merge in timeless harmony.
*[...] Pino Deodato is a humanist, an alchemist of the image, always in transit between drawing and installation, between concept and emotion. An eccentric presence in the contemporary arts scene, a singularity that has traversed the last decades building its own, highly original lyrical cosmology, made up of soft views and vespertine appearances, rarefied presences and surprising panic communions.
- Ivan Quaroni*
Artist Pino Deodato was born in Nao (Vibo Valentia) in 1950 and lives and works in Milan.
